Even though they’re not the most comfortable cars or offer the best performances, there has always been something extremely special about hot rods and the combination between rear-wheel drive and huge V8s will always be seductive. But we’re not going to talk about hot rods today, but about rat rods. Don’t know the difference? Well, you can clearly see it in the photo above. The rat rod is the hot rod’s dirty relative which is used to carry other cars around (such as this hot rod) but which in some cases, like this one, steals the show.

The tow truck you see here is a 1938 Diamond T and is powered by a 5.9-liter Cummings L6 24v diesel engine that produces 634-hp and 1,280 lb-ft of torque (1,736 Nm). And no, there’s no mistake about these numbers. Throughout its history, the truck has been famous for being able to handle all sorts of problems. For example, the British Army used it to transport tanks and now is being used by the folks over at Weaver Customs to carry around their bomb, the famous Model A Twin Turbo.
