Mazda MX-5 Miata Rendering

Unfortunately, this is not an official image, but damn, we definitely wish it was. Instead it was created by Malaysian automotive artist Theophilus Chin for an online contest. He never got into it, but it doesn’t matter, we’re glad he created his vision of how the upcoming Mazda MX-5 might look like and we hope people are Mazda see this.

Even though, to be honest, we’re expecting the production Miata which will be released next year to be quite similar to the concept envisioned by Chin, which follows the Japenese car manufacturer’s recent Kodo design philosophy. So far there aren’t too many details available about the upcoming Mazda MX-5/Miata, but it looks like the carmaker is looking to get closer to the model’s roots, which made it the popular car it is today, so the next generation Miata will be smaller and lighter (as much as 220 pounds) than the current one. Combine this with rumors about an increased power output and we might have a great sports car ready to be born.

But guess we’ll have to wait a little more to see that, because sales are scheduled to start next year, which means the official debut will probably take place sometime later this year.
