Bentley SUV Teaser

After the Volkswagen Group decided that Bentley’s upcoming SUV will be built at the British carmaker’s production facility in Crewe, intense preparations are made to prepare the factory for the high production volume. And since here Bentley already builds the Mulsanne, Continental GT and Flying Spur, 140 new jobs will soon be available, because the three models make the factory currently run at full capacity. According to a recent press release by Bentley, out of the 140 jobs, 90 will be engineering positions and the rest will be recruited from the graduates of different training programs that the British carmaker has organized in the past years.

This workforce investment is jsut the first step of Volkswagen Group’s bigger plan of investing almost 1 billion Euros (around $1.37B) in the Crewe factory over the next three years. This major investment is meant to extend the factory’s production capacity and as a result sales are expected to rise 50% (from a little over 10,000 units in 2013 to around 15,000 units in 2018).

The highly anticipated Bentley SUV will be inspired by the EXP 9 concept which was unveiled two years ago at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show and according to Bentley, there are already 2,000 pre-orders for the model despite the model’s high price tag. Pricing details weren’t released to the public yet, but Bentley officials announced that the “entry-level” version will cost more than the most expensive Range Rover. The model’s will make its official debut this autumn at the Frankfurt Motor Show, with first deliveries scheduled for 2016.
