BMW dealers in Germany oppose online car sales

BMW Online Sales

The German carmaker has recently announced an idea they have that involves using internet more. Apparently, BMW wants to implement a new web service that will allow customers to order a test drive or even place an order for a new car, all online. According to the company’s officials, customers will be able to order a test drive online and a salesmen will soon come to the customer’s house with the car. However, it looks like BMW dealers in Germany aren’t so happy with this idea, since in their opinion this will probably lead to a lot of wasted time because too few people will actually buy something.

BMW officials first mentioned the idea of using web sales more during an interview for German business magazine Wirtschaftswoche, shortly after announcing the BMW i3 pricing in Germany. The German carmaker dreams of a young and dynamic sales team that will visit customers at home and will introduce them to BMW’s models and offers in an attractive way. At the time, BMW added that “we can well imagine that Internet sales could be expanded to all models,” a statement that made dealers pretty unhappy.

BMW is not the first car company that is trying to use web sales and Germany is also not the first market where a carmaker tries to test this idea. A while ago, General Motors started a campaign selling cars from dealerships’ stocks directly on eBay, while Daimler and BMW also attempted selling cars online in China.

You will have to speak to your local dealer for that.
