BMW M5 Ring Taxi Crash

Even though it rode the Nurburgring’s 12.5 miles almost daily in the past two years, it looks like that wasn’t enough to stop the BMW M5 Ring Taxi from being involved in a serious crash last week.

BMW made a tradition from having its “taxi” ride on the famous German track, the most recent version of the M5 being “in service” since 2011. For those not familiar with the concept, the Ring Taxi was basically a car you could rent for about 200 Euros ($275), driver included, to show you how a lap of the Nurburgring is really done. Yeah, that’s how much it cost to have someone who knows what he’s doing toss you around in a car that delivers 560-hp, sprints from 0 to 62 mph in 4.4 seconds, from 0 to 124 mph in 13 seconds and reaches a top speed of 190 mph.

However, it looks like that someone doesn’t always know what he’s doing, because last week something went terribly wrong and the Nurburgring proved once again that the “Green Hell” nickname wasn’t given just because it sounds good. Even though there aren’t any confirmed details on what exactly happened over there, it seems that the wet track combined with high speed led to the professional M5 driver losing control of the M5 and smashing it into the railings. Apparently no one was injured, but unfortunately we can’t say the same about the M5, whose rear part seems to be seriously damaged.
