BMW Vision Gran Turismo

The BMW Vision Gran Turismo is a high-performance car created by a team of designers from the German company for the popular Gran Turismo 6 video game. The Vision Gran Turismo virtual car is heavily inspired from the BMW M235i Racing, the competition version of the M235i. However, that was just a starting point for creating the car that we’ll only get to drive on PlayStation and not in real life. However, there are some voices claiming that we will see something similar on the streets one day under the M2 name tag, the smallest member of the M family based on the 2-Series Coupe.

Because in video games money and construction requirements are not an issue, the team of designers was free to unleash their imagination, so they created a car almost entirely made of carbon fiber whose aggressive bumpers make any current M model seem extremely quiet. The car’s weight, which is important only to the game’s specs, is around 2,600 pounds with a weight distribution, 50:50 between the axles. We don’t know how is that going to reflect in the game, but in real life that’s the perfect weight distribution and would make the car handle like crazy.

But the most interesting part of the BMW Vision Gran Turismo is its engine, a TwinPower Turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder inline unit that produces 549-hp and 502 lb-ft (680 Nm) of torque. Max power output is available at 7,300 rpm while peak torque is delivered starting with 1,900 rpm. The model has rear-wheel drive and power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission.

Gran Turismo is one of the most popular racing video games franchise, with more than 70 million units being sold since its debut in 1998. The game is available exclusively on the PlayStation and the sixth installment was released last year, on December 6, with more than 2 million units already sold. To celebrate the 15th anniversary, the game introduced a festival called “Vision Gran Turismo” which features concept cars designed by carmakers exclusively for the game. The first such model was the Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo, which was revealed on November 17, followed by several others which BMW now joins.
