Even though the new generation Chevrolet Corvette Stingray made its official debut almost half a year ago, at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show, not many details were known about the car’s specs. But an official press release issued today sheds some light about Detroit’s latest sports car.

Powered by an 6.3-liter LT1 engine, the new Corvette Stingray offers 455-hp and 460 lb-ft. These resources can be slightly improved if the customers chooses an upgraded exhaust system that boosts the power output up to 460-hp and 464 lb-ft. As for performance figures, Chevrolet hasn’t released anything official, but it says the car will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in less than 4 seconds.

Detroit officials also made promises regarding the car’s fuel economy, the Corvette Stingray marking a premiere for Chevrolet. It will be their first car to offer a cylinder management system that deactivates unneeded cylinders to improve fuel economy. So far, this technology was only available on cars from the Volkswagen Group, and Chevrolet becomes the second carmaker to offer it. Of course, the direct fuel injection technology is also present, helping the Corvette Stingray achieve an average highway fuel economy around 26 mpg.

Chevrolet didn’t mention an official launch date for North America for the Corvette Stingray, but we’re expecting it this summer.
