Last year, the French carmaker announced that they’re working on a lineup of new premium models, called Initiale Paris. Now we have more details about these vehicles, from Renault’s CFO Dominique Thormann, who gave some new details in an interview for Automotive News. According to the French official, the first member of the Initiale Paris lineup will make its world debut this autumn at the 2014 Paris Motor Show and most likely will be a luxury version of the Espace MPV, whose next generation is on its way.

The announcement comes in a delicate moment, after one of the project’s main supporters, Carlos Tavares, left the company. The Portuguese, who was second in command after Carlos Ghosn, left Renault last year, later to become the Chairman of PSA Peugeot Citroen. As you probably know, Citroen already has a premium lineup of models, the DS range, which is soon to become an independent brand of the French carmaker.

As for Renault, despite the carmaker announcing the debut of the first Initiale Paris member in October, they refused to release any details about what kind of vehicle should we except. Of course, a premium crossover called INITIALE PARIS was unveiled last year in Frankfurt, but that doesn’t mean the first one will be a crossover. In the beginning, the Initiale Paris project was suppose to be a luxury trim level offered for certain Renault models, but Tavares was the one who insisted that doing this won’t be enough to turn “Initiale Paris” into a profitable project.

As for the future, several reports indicated that Renault will launch two new members of the premium lineup, a C-segment and a D-segment model, with larger models being scheduled for later. At the time of their launch, these models will compete against Citroen’s DS lineup and also against Ford’s upcoming “Vignale” premium range, with all these projects following the same recipe: exclusive styling, additional standard and optional features, plus top class customer service.
