And there goes Mazda’s secret. A couple of leaked photos of the next generation Mazda3 were published by a Japanese magazine. As most were probably expecting, the car’s look doesn’t come as a surprise, the new compact following the carmaker’s current KODO design language. According to the magazine, the images show the final version that will go into production this fall. Considering these, the car’s debut will most likely take place at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show.

Mazda’s KODO design philosophy was applied to models like the CX-5 crossover or the Mazda6 limousine and will probably influence other upcoming models too. But that’s not all the CX-5, Mazda6 and the new Mazda3 will have in common, because the three models will also share the SkyActiv platform, the Mazda3 being built on a modified version of the CX-5.

The Mazda3 is the best selling model in the Japanese carmaker’s lineup, so the next generation’s success is vital to the company’s financial status. Of course, even though the images show the hatchback version, we’ll probably see the sedan too. We’re still expecting an official reaction from Mazda, but the photos will probably be confirmed soon, when we’re also expecting further details, perhaps even a full press release.
