After integrated satellite navigation systems became better and better and caught up with dedicated companies like TomTom or Garmin it looks like it’s time for the next step. Lexus has just announced that starting with the new generation IS, the satellite navigation system available on the car will have a cool new feature, being able to locate available parking spots in real time.

This is possible thanks to a partnership recently signed by Lexus and British start-up Parkopedia. The company created a service that uses information from other users to notify drivers of any nearby parking spots. However, the service doesn’t locate individual parking spaces, it only provides information about available spots in parking lots. The problem is that even though Parkopedia’s service is available in 40 countries, including all major countries like the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Russia and most European countries, Lexus will only offer this feature in Europe, including Russia and Turkey.

And if you’re sorry for not having access to this feature, don’t worry, we’ve got a solution for you, that’s also way cheaper than buying a Lexus. You see, the thing is that Parkopedia is already offering a mobile app, available for almost any platform out there, including iPhone/iPad, Android and Windows Phone (you can see all available platforms here).
