Mazda MX-5 25th Anniversary Edition

The world’s most popular roadster will be given a special edition that will debut at the New York Auto Show and celebrates 25 years since the first Miata was built. And when we’re saying “the world’s most popular” it’s not because we like it, but because it’s also official, the MX-5 being the Guinness World Record holder for best selling two-seat sport car in history, with more than 940,000 units being sold since 1989.

The 25th Anniversary edition will be available exclusively with the “Soul Red Metallic” paint finish that includes a black roof, mirror caps and A-pillar. The interior features white leather upholstery, a hand decorated decorative panel and hand stitched leather door panels. What’s interesting is that the special edition also comes with several performance upgrades. Honda engineers improved the 160-hp 2.0-liter engine by replacing the pistons, rods and flywheel with lightweight ones, that improve the way the car accelerates. Also, the anniversary MX-5 comes with Bilstein sport shock absorbers and 17-inch alloy wheel in “Dark Gunmetal” finish. According to the Japanese carmaker, there’s no power boost, but all these upgrades provide an “extraordinary” throttle pedal response and a special exhaust sound.
