Nissan Champions League Sponsor

Last month we told you that Ford will end its long-term sponsor partnership with the UEFA Champions League. But just like we anticipated, the European organization had no problems in finding another major sponsor for the world’s most important football club competition. The Japanese car manufacturer is looking to increase its brand image among customers and the partnership with the UEFA Champions League seems to be the winning ticket. It’s the largest sponsorship deal Nissan has ever signed and it’s a part of their strategy to become the best selling Japanese carmaker in Europe by 2016.

The deal was confirmed by Nissan’s officials, which were extremely delighted with their involvement in European soccer. The contract gives the Japanese carmaker extended visibility during Champions League matches, pre-match training sessions, TV broadcasts and other media from UEFA. Nissan’s debut as UEFA Champions League’s sponsor will take place this summer, on August 12, at the UEFA Super Cup in Cardiff, Wales.

The financial details of the partnership haven’t been released, but marketing expert estimate that Nissan will pay around $75 million per year. Also, it looks like Nissan proposed the deal to UEFA before the European forum started renegotiation the deal with Ford, which has been a sponsor of the competition since it changed to its current format in 1992. The contact between Ford and UEFA will end after this year’s Champions League final which will take place on May 24 in Lisbon. During this event, Ford will promote the new Mustang in front of an audience estimated at around 300 million viewers in more than 180 countries.
