Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid, the German carmaker’s new hybrid version of the four-door coupe managed to get an average fuel economy of 53.4 mpg during several press tests conducted in Germany. According to Porsche, this final fuel economy figure was calculated after 42 journalist test which drove for more than 750 miles. During the NEDC testing (standard in Europe), the Panamera S E-Hybrid got 75.8 mpg, but now we’re talking about real driving style (traffic conditions, passengers on board and the A/C turned on). The testing “track” was 20 miles long, around the city of Hockenheim in Germany and it included around 4 miles of urban traffic, 6 miles of county roads and 8 miles of the German Autobahn which included areas without speed limit, where some journalists went as fast as 142 mph.

Porsche also said that those that tested the model also managed to achieve the announced full-electric driving range of 22 miles, despite an average speed of 33.5 mph. According to the official specs, the Porsche S E-Hybrid delivers 416-hp and is capable of going from 0 to 62 mph in just 5.5 seconds, with a top speed of 167 mph.

The new S E-Hybrid made its debut together with the Panamera facelift and it’s being powered by a powertrain inspired from motorsport, where Porsche made a lot of experiments on hybrid racing cars lkike the 911 GT3 R Hybrid. Another important feature is that the hybrid Panamera can also be charged using a regular power outlet, which helps saving fuel in urban traffic and also significantly reducing the amount of CO2 released in the air.
