Seat Ibiza Cupster Concept Worthersee 2014

The Spanish brand has released the first official images with the new Seat Ibiza Cupster concept, a convertible sports car based on the Ibiza, the carmaker’s competitor in the small car segment. The concept will make its world debut next week, during this year’s edition of the famous annual Volkswagen Group gathering that takes place in Worthersee, Austria. As you have probably already figured out, the concept’s name is a combination between “Coupe” and “Roadster” and to be honest, we really dig the “Cupster” thing…sounds really cute.

The first Seat Ibiza rolled off the production line on April 27, 1984 and the Seat Ibiza Cupster concept celebrates the model’s 30th anniversary. As you can see in the photos released by Seat, the concept is based on the Ibiza but features several important design modifications. First of all, the steep windshield and the short side windows create an interesting silhouette, emphasized by the Cupra-style body and the New Orange paint job. Also, the production Ibiza’s rear seats have been removed and the concept only features two seats, highlighting its sporty character.

In the back, the Ibiza Cupster features a nicely integrated boot spoiler and a large exhaust tailpipe placed in the center. Under the hood, Seat confirmed that the concept is powered by the 1.4 TSI gasoline engine used by the Seat Ibiza Cupra that produces 180-hp and 250 Nm of torque and is mated to Volkswagen’s famous DSG automatic transmission.
