General Motors has just released official specs of the upcoming Chevrolet Corvette Z06 which was unveiled earlier this year in Detroit. At the time of its debut, all that it was mentioned about the Z06’s 6.2-liter V8 was that it will produce over 625-hp, but the final specs see the upcoming Corvette producing 650-hp and 649 lb-ft (880 Nm) of torque. In the meantime, the American sports car received the SAE international certification for its high power output matched only by supercars like the McLaren P1, Porsche 918 Spyder, Ferrari LaFerrari, Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, Ferrari FF and the Lamborghini Aventador.

The 6.2-liter V8 engine is called LT4 and is supercharged with a 1.7-liter Eaton mechanic compressor. The peak torque of 649 lb-ft is available starting with 3,600 rpm, while maximum power is available at 6,400 rpm. Until 2,800 rpm, the driver gets between 457 and 625 lb-ft (619 and 847 Nm), which is better than what other supercars offer. Also, 90% of maximum available torque is being delivered between 2,500 and 5,400 rpm. All this power and torque is being handled either by a seven-speed manual transmission available as standard or an eight-speed automatic. The specs press release doesn’t mention anything about the Z06’s fuel economy or performance figures.

Compared to the previous generation Corvette Z06, the new one offers 40% more torque, surpassing even the Corvette ZR1 which was the high-performance version of the previous Z06. That’s quite impressive, considering the new Z06’s engine “lost” 800 cmc out of its displacement. The new Z07 also offers 29% more power than the Z06 and 12-hp more than the ZR1. And speaking of the ZR1, General Motors’ officials haven’t spoken yet about a possible successor of the ZR1, given the impressive specs of the new Z06, but according to rumors, an even more powerful Corvette is not being ruled out.
