Mercedes-AMG GT Teaser

The Mercedes-AMG GT will the first model to drop the “Benz” from its name (replaced by their high-performance division’s name) and will be carmaker’s main competitor against the other legendary sports car built in Stuttgart, the Porsche 911. The car is the second one to be independently built by AMG, after the SLS AMG which it replaces and its world debut is scheduled for this fall. But Mercedes won’t let us wait and two photos of the model’s interior were “leaked” today.

Until today, people knew the model after its internal name, C190, and the “Benz” drop in the name wasn’t specified. The AMG GT will be a two-seat sports car that will focus on both performance and high-end finish, Mercedes also declaring in the past that it will be the most beautiful car they’ve ever built. As expected, the car will borrow many design elements from current models such as the recently launched C-Class, while interior materials and finishes will be taken to a whole new level. The leather-wrapped dashboard is made of carbon-fiber, while the air vents continue the tradition started by the SLS AMG. The central console will include all the essential controls, including the large touchscreen display introduced on the new C-Class.

Mercedes-AMG GT Teaser
For the moment, it’s not clear whether the Mercedes-AMG GT will feature gullwing doors and most likely the car will be powered by a turbocharged V8 powerplant that is expected to produce around 500-hp. Of course, it is also possible to see the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 announced for the next-generation C63 AMG, but we’ll have to wait for more exact details. The initial launch date was scheduled for this July, during the Formula One German Grand Prix, but was pushed back until fall, probably at the Paris Motor Show. So those looking for a Mercedes supercar will have to wait a while, because the SLS AMG production ended in March.
