Volkswagen Sales 1Q 2014

So far, 2014 is a great year for the German carmaker, which is preparing itself for breaking the annual sales record once again. The first four months’ results show a 4.6 percent increase in sales, which means the total number of units was 1.99 million, 8,000 units more than in the same period last year, when there were 1.91 million Volkswagens sold. In April, the German brand managed to sell 513,400 cars, 6.8% more than in April 2013, when they sold 480,900 vehicles.

As expected, the Asia-Pacific area was extremely important in achieving these results, with 993,400 units sold, 16.2% more than last year. In Europe, 567,800 Volkswagens were sold, a 4.1% increase, which is not bad at all considering that the Old Continent is still seeing a slow recovery after the financial turmoil, which hit the car industry pretty bad. Most cars were sold in Western Europe (184,100 in Germany and 298,400 cars in the other Western markets), 85,300 units were sold in Central and Eastern Europe, while Russia was one of the markets that reported a decline, with only 45,800 cars sold (7.4% less than last year). As for the Americas, Volkswagen sold 182,700 units in South America and 183,900 in North America, 118,200 of which were sold in the United States.
