Mercedes-Benz CLA 45 AMG

The news was reported by German magazine Automobile Woche who recently talked to Tobias Moers, the head of Mercedes’ high-performance division. According to the German official, AMG’s sales in the first quarter of 2014 are 50% higher than last year and the company expects for this trend to be kept throughout the rest of the year. The impressive growth was possible thanks to the introduction of several new models, the A 45 AMG, the CLA 45 AMG and the GLA 45 AMG. Just like the “regular” models on which they are based, these three became popular and are also priced lower than AMG customers were paying so far, which made them more affordable. Other additions to the AMG lineup were the S 63 AMG and the S 63 AMG Coupe (the latter being available with the 4Matic all-wheel drive system for the first time), but it’s too early for any relevant conclusions to be taken.

Overall, the AMG division is doing extremely well, reaching its objectives a lot faster than anticipated. Mercedes sold 30,000 AMG units last year, a target which was set for 2017. Actually, the target was 28,000 units, so AMG sold 2,000 more units that what they were expecting in 2017, the year when the division celebrates its 50th anniversary. Following these great results, the German carmaker’s management has already started working on a new strategy based on the excellent sales numbers. [Read the full article…]
